While your roof is built to withstand storm elements, some tropical storms like last week's Isaias bring much more intense wind and rain. If you are wondering if any damage has been done to your roof, below are the most common signs to look for. Please be safe when inspecting your roof—possibly view from a window inside the house or use binoculars from the ground. If in doubt, call Just Improvements and we will safely inspect your roof, siding, and gutters.

In addition to considering your own convenience, it is important to know that many roofers adjust their labor charges based on slow vs busy work seasons. Moreover, depending on the roofing material you want, there may be weather and temperature related restrictions that will impact your timing. The best time to get your roof replaced is when you have the time to plan your construction timeline and feel confident that contractor will stay on track AND if you can wait, during the SLOW season for contractors so you don't pay premium labor costs. So...When is the BEST time to have your roof replaced? Here are the trends in our Philly area and how to consider each season into your plan.

When the siding on the exterior of your home is dirty, or the paint is peeling, it makes your entire house look dingy. Most importantly though, not only can a dirty roof ruin your home’s curb appeal, but it can actually damage your roof.

So what is flashing? It's a thin layer of waterproof material that keeps water from getting into places it doesn't belong. (Caulk is fine for filling small gaps around windows and doors, but it shouldn't be confused with flashing.) You can count on one thing-water flows unerringly toward the ground. And as it travels, flashing carries it safely over the inevitable crevices, cracks and gaps in the building's exterior. If it's going to work, flashing must be installed so no seams face uphill. It's usually layered with other building materials. The upper edge of flashing, for instance, is protected by house wrap or tarpaper, not installed over it. If you wonder whether flashing has been installed the way it's supposed to be, follow a drop of rain water as it moves down the side of your house. It should be carried from surface to surface all the way down, never encountering an open seam or an upturned lip that blocks its progress. When it comes to the deck, a strip of flashing is brought down the wall of the house and over the top of the ledger (the piece of dimensional lumber attached to the house at the edge of the deck). This all-important water barrier should extend up the wall at least 4 in.

However, if your roof is aging past twenty years, re-roofing or replacing a roof is commonly the most effective step. Before deciding whether your roof needs a simple patch or a complete overhaul, call us so we can come take a look. Inspections are free to you for us to come assess the damage.

Not all granule loss from your asphalt shingles is bad. Most of the time, it is due to normal aging and we recommend an inspection if your roof is pushing it's 20 year lifespan. Granules may be lost for a number of reasons, and to determine the cause, we want to look at the roof from both near and far. From the ground up, we will examine the surface closely to see details and patterns. If you are experiencing granule loss, here's the top reasons why this may be occurring.
